Limiting Processed Food
There is so many steps I want to take to get healthy, one being I want to watch what I am putting into my body. I have gone through spurts before where I would limit how much process food I am eating and try to make as much as possible homemade. This way you know what exactly is in your food. Yes I can understand the convince of process food, I have been there. Getting home from work and you just want to make a quick meal, with little to no prep. It is one of the things that keep bringing me back to process food, especially different times of the year. It is also a trap I get into when I am struggling a bit financially. Some times you have to give up the quality to be able to feed your family, I get it. One thing I have been noticing that the process food is not that "cheap" like it use to be.
I am trying to break down my goals monthly, this way the little changes will become more of a habit then a drastic change. Where I live we are starting to head into the growing season, what better time to start change your eating habits. To be honest it also helps that our new place doesn't have a big area for a pantry. As much as I want to go gun hoe and do 100% none process food, I know that is unrealistic. At the beginning of the month I want to aim for 60-70% of our food being non process. By the time the month is done I am hoping to be at least at 90-95% non process food in our diet. I believe this will help with not setting us up for failure. It will also give us a chance to continue to grow with the process as the local supply of food grows as well. Last year I tried some pickling, this year I would like to continue that and also other ways of preserving fruits and vegetables. This way it may help us have access to it in the colder months.
It is time to also try some new recipes and explore some new flavours.
